The newest sculpture added to is the Taylor Swift mermaid that encircles a sandy throne.

The village acts as a little coastal gallery, with an ever-changing collection of museum-caliber sculptures encompassing many genres and themes.

While on spring break, Canadian sand sculptor Abe Waterman finished Taylor's piece in less than a week.

The mermaid singer-songwriter joins the gallery's already-existing portraits of Elon Musk and Willie Nelson.

According to Wierenga, the current iteration of the gallery showcases the creations of about 12 international sculptors, three of whom are from the area.

Like Waterman, all sculptors come to South Padre Island by way of donations. The next sculpture will be carved in April by Paul and Remy Hoggar, who are from Bulgaria, according to the website.
